Monday Steps Play Group (Elementary)
Steps Play Group is specifically designed for elementary male students. It takes place on Mondays from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM. This group primarily focuses on the following skills: initiating, asking questions, telling related stories, compromising, problem solving, and behavior regulation. Strategies for skill development are focused on students learning how to resolve their own problems and begin their own conversations. The cost is $25 per hour session and billed as monthly tuition based on number of scheduled groups.

Monday Foundations Play Group (Early Elementary)
Monday Foundations Play Group is specifically designed for early elementary students. It takes place on Mondays from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM at Sertoma Gym. This group primarily focuses on pre-determined individual and group goals related to conversation and interaction with others. Foundations is typically students that are relatively new to social groups, including 2nd year of participation. The cost is $25 per hour session and billed as monthly tuition based on number of scheduled groups. New clients must complete an initial consultation before participating in any group placement.

Monday Conversation Group (7th - 10th)
Monday Conversation Group is specifically designed for 7th - 10th grade students. This group is composed of students with a quiet or reserved demeanor to focus on more advanced conversation skills with specific attention to bridging, changing, and continuing topics. The group takes place on Mondays from 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM. Inferencing is also a large portion of this class. It is recommended that all participants have recent results from a standardized assessment measuring pragmatic language. The cost per group is $25, which is billed as monthly tuition based on the number of scheduled groups.

Tuesday Steps Play Group (Elementary)

Sports Development (All ages)
Development for Sports is a new opportunity only available this semester on Mondays and Tuesdays for individual and small group. This opportunity should not replace supports by an Occupational Therapist (OT) or trained technician for gross motor and coordination skills. Course techniques will use best-practice strategies appropriate for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The goal for the class is to give individual or small group guidance to allow an individual to develop necessary skills to participate more fully in other scheduled social groups with more peers. Skills will be broken down for each individual with focus on visual techniques and repetition. Cost will vary on length of time of class, as well as individual or small group setting. Most sessions will be 20 - 30 minutes in length. Sessions will be best scheduled before or after a regular group, if student is participating in a weekly social group. Tuesday Sports & Team-Building Social Group (4th - 6th)
Sports & Team-Building is specifically designed for 4th - 6th grade male students, which takes place on Tuesdays from 4:45 PM - 5:45 PM. This group focuses on small talk during the first 5-10 minutes with pre-taught conversation rules. The remaining part of group focuses on group behavior and compromising strategies during sports and team-building activities. There are typically a lot of natural environment opportunities to work together. The cost is $20 per hour session and billed as monthly tuition based on number of scheduled groups. This class will be led by Kerry Mataya, M.S.Ed.

Tuesday Social Group (7th - 9th Grade)
Tuesday Social Group takes place on Tuesdays from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The focus of the group this school year will be lesson based for 25 - 30 minutes, with specific rules for conversation and interaction practice during the remaining group time. Students will complete their own performance evaluations weekly. The cost is $20 per session, which is billed as monthly tuition based on number of scheduled groups. The group will take place at Sertoma Gym in Hoover; however, new clients must complete an initial consultation before participation can be considered.

Discovery Career Exploration Program (8th - 12th Grade)
Discovery is a new program that will fill the gaps between the teenager years and adulthood. Discovery has 4 program areas: self-awareness, ethics, responsibility, and career exploration. This program is entirely lesson-based, and each semester contains 12 lessons under one program area. For example, Fall 2011 will contain 12 lessons on self-awareness over the course of 12 weeks. The program has been specially developed by Kerry Mataya, and the lessons are specifically tailored to fit someone's needs with Asperger Syndrome. There will be a minimum of 4 guest speakers throughout each semester to assist in career exploration. This is a more intense class with required assignments away from the course. Although there is no grade for the assignments, the purpose is to develop balance, responsibility, communication with authority, stress management, and follow-through to prepare each student for college-like responsibilities without parental assistance. There was a parent meeting on Monday, August 29 at 7:00 PM to discuss the date and time of this class, and parents decided on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Participants only attend one night weekly, but Mondays and Tuesdays will both be discussing the same syllabus from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The cost is $25 per session or $300 per 12-week semester program.

Wednesday Social Group (3rd - 5th Grade)
Social Group is specifically designed for elementary male students. It takes place on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM. This group primarily focuses on the following skills: initiating, maintaining interaction, pragmatic lesson reviews using drawings and video, and conversation. Strategies for skill development are focused on students learning how to initiate independently. The cost is $25 per hour session and billed as monthly tuition based on number of scheduled groups.
